Our recent event for tech management enthusiasts featured industry leaders sharing valuable insights. Cornel Heydenrych of Amazon highlighted cloud transformation strategies, while Christine Andrew from KPMG discussed AI’s role in strategy. Noelle Roque of Manulife offered advice on navigating transformation journeys. The session provided students with actionable steps for advancing in tech and management.

BTC X Fintex Case Competition

The recent Fintex Case Competition brought together over 15 B-School teams to strategize the launch of RealReach AI, Fintex’s innovative platform for personalized client communication in finance. Each team presented their case to Fintex executives, tackling real-world challenges such as delivering accessible financial insights, identifying target segments, and ensuring platform scalability and security. The winning team was awarded a $250 cash prize for their standout solution, addressing the need for transparent and engaging client communication in today’s financial landscape.

BTC x RBC Case Competition

The BTC x RBC Case Competition proved a resounding success, as students collaborated to solve a cutting-edge tech challenge posed by RBC’s GAM Team. Over 5 days, the top four teams developed innovative solutions, culminating in direct pitches to RBC executives—an unparalleled platform to showcase strategic thinking to industry leaders. The winning team earned a $250 cash prize, tech rewards, and exclusive RBC swag, along with the unique opportunity to present their solution at RBC’s office and network over lunch with senior management. By blending real-world problem-solving with career-defining exposure, the competition empowered participants to leave a lasting impression in the tech and finance sectors.

Excel Workshop (with David Elsner)

Graduate students at Schulich participated in an immersive Excel workshop led by Prof. David Elsner. Blending academic rigor with industry-tested expertise, Prof. Elsner equipped attendees with advanced techniques in data analysis, financial modeling, and strategic decision-making through hands-on challenges. Participants sharpened their ability to streamline workflows, interpret complex datasets, and optimize business outcomes, earning certifications to validate their enhanced Excel proficiency. This session empowered students with actionable skills to excel in both academic projects and professional roles, solidifying their readiness for today’s data-driven landscape.

A Day at Aviva Canada

BTC Schulich members immersed themselves in Aviva Canada’s IT ecosystem during an exclusive event, gaining firsthand insights into the technology and strategies driving innovation in the insurance sector. Participants explored the roles of Aviva’s IT teams, engaged in dynamic discussions with senior leaders on transformational leadership, digital transformation, and emerging industry trends, and discovered early-access internship opportunities to jumpstart their tech careers. The session also featured a post-panel networking segment, where students connected directly with professionals to discuss career pathways and practical steps for securing roles in IT. By blending tactical learning with strategic industry insights, the event equipped attendees with actionable knowledge to navigate and excel in tech-driven environments.

In a collaborative event with Net Impact, BTC Schulich hosted a thought-provoking panel discussion on embedding ethics into AI development, featuring industry leaders from PWC, Vector Institute and CIGI. The panel explored AI’s transformative potential in fields like healthcare and client consulting while highlighting critical ethical challenges, including data privacy risks, energy consumption, and the implications of quantum computing. Speakers emphasized balancing innovation with accountability, offering frameworks to prioritize fairness and transparency in AI systems. Attendees gained actionable insights into navigating ethical dilemmas and shaping responsible AI practices, equipping them to drive meaningful change in an increasingly tech-driven world

The competition culminated in finalists presenting their strategic proposals directly to senior leaders at KPMG, showcasing their analytical skills and creative thinking. Top-performing teams earned personalized mentorship sessions with industry experts, exclusive KPMG-branded gear, and invaluable exposure to cybersecurity career pathways.
